The High-Yield Getter (HYG) has been developed by SAES Getters R&D Laboratories to meet the increasing demand for getters yielding up to 400 mg of barium for tube sizes over 30 inches. This getter is based on a 20 mm stainless steel container, which is filled with BaAl4-Ni gettering mixture (St 15 or St 15A). Two Integral Retaining Rings (IRR) are formed into the container bottom. Four grooves are placed in the top of the getter powder packet at 90° angles to slow the exothermic reaction during the getter flash, controlling the energy liberated by the large quantity of getter alloy. |

The getter structure can ensure a barium yield of 400 mg, which is necessary to handle the outgassing inside large tubes, while at the same time being safe, reliable and without affecting the established manufacturing procedures of the CCRT. The high-yield concept has also been successfully applied to 15-mm getters to achieve yields of 200 mg at a shorter total time (TT), that is 35 seconds. These getters are recommended for mini-neck tubes with sizes of 20 inches and greater. Also, 20 mm, 300 mg getters have been developed with the HY (High Yield) concept to ensure large barium yields at 35 seconds TT. The high-yield getters may also be supplied with two-contact-point wire supports or stainless steel cross bars.
