Among its many challenges lies the need for advanced components that enable plasma heating at extreme temperatures. Here, <a href=\"https:\/\/saesrial.com\/\"><strong data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"914\">SAES RIAL Vacuum<\/strong><\/a>, in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/fusionforenergy.europa.eu\/\"><strong data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"965\">Fusion for Energy (F4E)<\/strong><\/a>, has played a fundamental role.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"container greyed\">\n      <div class=\"col-6\">\n      <div>\n        <h2 class=\"h3 title\">Fusion energy: the context<\/h2><p>Fusion reactions are fueled by isotopes of hydrogen, requiring only a few dozen kilograms of fuel to match the energy output of entire oil tankers. Unlike conventional energy sources, fusion is inherently safe and produces no greenhouse gases during operation.<br data-start=\"1299\" data-end=\"1302\" \/>In today\u2019s geopolitical landscape, the need for energy independence and sustainability has accelerated Europe\u2019s commitment to invest in skills, expertise, and industrial partnerships. Fusion, once a field dominated by publicly funded research, is now also attracting private investment thanks to its enormous strategic and economic potential.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n        <div class=\"col-6\">\n      <div>\n        <h2 class=\"h3 title\">The JT-60SA challenge<\/h2><p>Located in Naka, Japan, <strong data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1716\">JT-60SA<\/strong> is the largest superconducting tokamak ever built. It has been designed to support ITER and to pave the way towards DEMO, the demonstration reactor that will prove the viability of<strong> fusion energy<\/strong> at industrial scale.<br data-start=\"1932\" data-end=\"1935\" \/>To achieve fusion, plasma must be heated to over <strong data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2002\">100 million \u00b0C<\/strong>. One of the most effective systems for this is <strong data-start=\"2050\" data-end=\"2097\">Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH)<\/strong>, which uses high-power radiofrequency (RF) waves that resonate with the electrons in the plasma. Diamond is the only material capable of transmitting up to <strong data-start=\"2841\" data-end=\"2858\">1 MW of power<\/strong> with extremely low absorption, making it an irreplaceable solution for <strong>fusion energy<\/strong> applications.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n        <div class=\"col-6\">\n      <div>\n        <h2 class=\"h3 title\">SAES RIAL Vacuum\u2019s contribution<\/h2><p data-start=\"2997\" data-end=\"3464\">For <strong>JT-60SA<\/strong>, SAES RIAL Vacuum was awarded the contract to manufacture a complete set of integrated diamond windows.<br data-start=\"3116\" data-end=\"3119\" \/>This represented a <strong data-start=\"3138\" data-end=\"3159\">strategic novelty<\/strong>: unlike previous projects, where integration between disk and casing was handled by the client, <strong>SAES delivered the fully integrated unit<\/strong>.
