SAES Design House and B!POD at IDI 2024: A Step Forward in Advanced Materials Design
From November 22 to 24, SAES Design House participated in the ninth edition of Italian Design Icons (IDI) 2024, held at the prestigious 800 Show in Shanghai. This renowned event, dedicated to celebrating Italian design excellence, brought together international brands and professionals to explore the synergy of creativity, technology, and innovation under the theme “Manufacturing Value – Inclusiveness, Innovation, and Sustainability.”
SAES Design House: Young but Deeply Rooted
SAES Design House, a division of SAES, introduced its vision of contemporary design in Shanghai, leveraging over 80 years of expertise in advanced materials. With a portfolio of more than 300 patents, SAES has established itself as a global reference for cutting-edge solutions across industries, from electronics to sustainability.
This deep material science knowledge enables SAES Design House to approach design with both innovation and practicality, aiming to create functional products that meet modern market demands. At IDI 2024, the young division presented DRO!D, the first product in the B!POD portfolio, showcasing the fusion of advanced technologies and Italian design.
DRO!D: Compact, Powerful, and Innovative
DRO!D combines high-tech functionality with sleek, compact design. This vacuum device eliminates up to 95% of oxygen molecules in just 30 seconds. Despite its small size, comparable to an object that fits in the palm of your hand, DRO!D delivers performance on par with machines ten times larger.
The system works with specially designed rigid circular containers, available in three sizes. Made from ocean-bound recycled plastic, the containers are microwave-safe and dishwasher-friendly, ensuring convenience and durability. DRO!D not only preserves food freshness and nutritional properties but also offers new culinary possibilities, such as rapid margination and mixing.
Italian Design and Sustainability
The entire B!POD project reflects SAES Design House’s commitment to sustainability and performance. All development and production phases are carried out in Italy within a short supply chain, designed to create a true “Made in Italy” from design to assembly. Materials are key to understanding the product’s environmental performance, with low-energy production processes, recycled sources, recyclable materials, and a design approach that eliminates the use of glue and screws, also taking into consideration the product’s end-of-life phase. This approach seamlessly blends advanced technology with responsible design, strengthening the connection between people, design, and nature.
SAES Design House at IDI 2024
Participating in IDI 2024 marked a significant milestone for SAES Design House, showcasing to the Eastern market how Italian design is evolving in unconventional environments such as the scientific field. As a newcomer in the design landscape, the division demonstrated how established expertise in material science can translate into innovative, high-quality products.
A Promising Beginning
IDI 2024 provided SAES Design House with a platform to share its design vision and engage with industry leaders, initiating a dialogue on pivotal themes such as the combination of design and material science. By presenting the B!POD brand and its DNA, as well as offering a preview of the new Emeth project, which will officially be released in early 2025.
“With B!POD, we tackled the challenge of bringing to consumers the historical know-how and technologies of SAES, ranging from vacuum science to food packaging, and from shape memory alloys to membranes. IDI was a great opportunity for exchange and discussion on the evolution of design and the relationship between the discipline and sustainable technological innovation” said Marco Filippo Batavia, Head of Design at SAES Design House.
