On June 5th and 6th, the Novamont Headquarters and Research Center in Novara hosted the inaugural meeting for the European flagship project TERRIFIC, titled “NexT genERation circulaR bIo-based Flagship packagIng: a catalyst for the green transition”. This ambitious project, spearheaded by Novamont, is set to revolutionize the packaging sector by demonstrating and developing eight innovative solutions utilizing renewable raw materials within a circular economy framework.

The TERRIFIC project brings together a diverse and multidisciplinary consortium of 19 European partners, including four SMEs, from Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Luxembourg, and the Czech Republic. The consortium comprises a mix of academic institutions, research centers, and industry leaders.

During the kick-off meeting, consortium members had the opportunity to present and discuss the planned project activities and outline future steps. The event also included a visit to the Novamont Research and Development Centre’s laboratories, providing partners with insights into Novamont’s pioneering circular bioeconomy model.

TERRIFIC is among four flagship projects funded in 2024 by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU), a public-private partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). This initiative aims to advance the European bio-based industry, supporting sustainable development and fostering a green transition in various sectors.

The TERRIFIC project promises to be a pivotal catalyst in the green transition, showcasing the potential of bio-based, renewable materials to transform the packaging industry and contribute to a more sustainable future for Europe and beyond.
