Junior Computational Designer

Design House is the design innovation lab of SAES, working on two main fronts: research and development in material science with design-driven methodologies and the design of industrial products for the B!POD brand, for which it is responsible for all design, logistics, budget, art direction and marketing activities.

Job Description:

The Junior Computational Designer reports to the Design Manager. They work on research projects about additive manufacturing processes with special materials and complex system design for consumer applications. The Junior Computational Designer also works on product development for the B!POD brand, using their skills to find creative solutions to technical problems and new design opportunities, collaborating with the Design Team and the various players in the system.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop design strategies for complex problems, building adaptive and customized workflows. Identify opportunities for product and process optimization.
  • Find original solutions to technical problems in multiple fields of application, from consumer products to applied research.
  • Develop custom tools for an internal research project dedicated to mechanical metamaterials.
  • Work with the Design Manager and a multidisciplinary team on R&D activities.
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager and other designers on developing products from sketches to production.
  • Work creatively and technically to solve problems related to technical and ergonomic requirements, developing a range of solutions that synthesize usability, utility, manufacturability, and desirability.
  • Work with teams early on to provide user-centered insights and design products, finding ways to improve products and processes.
  • Participate in user research, usability testing, and clinical research labs.
  • Passionately engage in cross-functional team meetings and other forums, proactively driving efforts forward.
  • Utilize computational and procedural design software like Grasshopper, Houdini, nTop.
  • Experimenting with new workflows, software and processes.
  • Open to travel (approx 10 %).

Requirements:

  • An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates the ability to solve technical problems using a computational approach and to develop effective design strategies
  • Successfully worked with engineering and product teams to develop designs and bring products to market.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computational design software in a methodical and precise manner.
  • Proficiency in programming, for example: C#, Python, and VEX.
  • A good base knowledge of key manufacturing processes, product development and DFAM.
  • A basic-level skill in prototyping.
  • Mid-level visualization skills, including sketching, storyboarding, and digital rendering.
  • Proficient in Italian and English languages.

Education and experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in relevant Computational Design roles.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

3D Modeler

Job Description: 3D Modeler

The 3D Modeler reports to the Design Manager. They are responsible for developing models for various applications, including all B!POD branded products and all models developed in research projects. They are responsible for developing functional models for prototyping and production. Alongside the Design Manager and Industrial Designers, they are tasked with proposing innovative architectures using 3D mathematics as a medium. They interface directly with the production and prototyping departments to gather information on product development processes.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the quality of mathematical models for the design of all products developed by the division.
  • Product development in collaboration with the Design Manager and Industrial Designers
  • Development of maquettes and models for DFAM and DFM.
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager on developing products from sketches to production, building not only the product but the entire production chain.
  • Work creatively and technically to solve problems related to technical and ergonomic requirements, developing a range of solutions that synthesize usability, utility, manufacturability, and desirability.
  • Participate in user research, usability testing, and clinical research labs.
  • Passionately engage in cross-functional team meetings and other forums, proactively driving efforts forward.
  • Utilize a range of 3D tools and techniques to develop and communicate design solutions.
  • Show interest in experimenting with computational and procedural design and in general non-standard workflows.
  • Open to travel (approx 10 %).

Requirements:

  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional ability in developing complex 3D models, excellent surface and fillet management skills, class A modeling skills, development of complex models with inside-out logic. Development of complex models for DFM and DFAM.
  • Successfully worked with engineering and production teams to develop designs and bring products to market.
  • Extensive experience in CAD, including complex surface modeling and intricate assemblies.
  • Curiosity to experiment with new tools, collaborating with other designers on different platforms.
  • A good base knowledge of key manufacturing processes for polymers, ceramics, and metals.
  • A medium-level skill in prototyping ideas functionally.
  • Ability to effectively communicate creative and technical ideas using CAD and other medium.
  • A deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and DFM, including draft analysis, tolerances, snap-fit systems, screw systems, and assembly strategies.
  • Proficient in Italian and English languages.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in relevant 3D modeler roles.

Job Description: Senior Industrial Designer

The Senior Industrial Designer reports to the Design Manager. They define and drive new product designs for B!POD and SAES Design House Department, designing not only the products but also the related production and logistics chains. They work on all research and development projects for SAES across multiple fields, with the goal of growing the group in a transversal manner. They utilize the group’s patent heritage and research streams in advanced materials to innovate and introduce new areas of research interest into the company.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop products with a user-centered design process and identify new opportunities. Present proposals to the Design Manager and Chief Innovation Officer, collecting feedback and ideas from research and marketing teams.
  • Autonomously drive projects or collaborate with other industrial design team members on production and R&D projects.

Brand Manager

Our Opportunity

B!POD is a new brand born with the aim of improving the existence and life of human beings on our planet, celebrating biodiversity and strengthening the bond between man and nature. B!POD is the first consumer brand from SAES, a material science company pioneering advanced applications and materials to enable and promote the protection of Planet Earth. At SAES you will have the opportunity to work on ambitious projects to grow B!POD brand, collaborating with internal development teams and external partners across Europe.

The Brand Manager is responsible for overseeing all the operations regarding B!POD brand and its projects. The Brand Manager reports directly to the Head of Design House and the Chief Innovation Officer.

Your key responsibilities will be:

In the role of Brand Manager, you will take responsibility of the brands P&L, budget, forecasts and overall execution of Marketing & Product strategies of go to market, including new launches, campaigns, events and any special Communication project.

Brand, product and marketing strategy will be set and reviewed every three months with the Head of Design House and the Chief Innovation Officer. Your focus will be actuation of brand strategy and management, media ownership, KPI analysis, finance and P&L mastery and team management.

In the specific you will:

  • Develop and deliver country-based strategies and launch plans in collaboration with internal key stakeholders and external partners (e.g. media agency).
  • Follow all day-to-day operations for brand functioning.
  • Own the brand budget, ensuring effective and accurate budget management.
  • Develop and test product growth strategies (including pricing, advertising, and product launches) to help our products flourish to their full, market-leading potential.
  • Manage existing growth activities (including performance marketing, re-engagement, events, influencer marketing).
  • Analyze the market and competition intensely and identify new strategies to help our products and brands reach ever-increasing heights.
  • Support in a proactive way all key processes, including Annual Strategy Plan, Monthly/Quarterly Business Review.
  • Have full control of Brand Health status (Market Share, Brand KPI’s, Panel Data, what worked/what needs to be improved).

Requirements:

Curiosity and willingness to experiment are a must, along with a passion and a hands-on work approach.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a Project Management role.
  • Good marketing mix knowledge and previous experiences with digital marketing, events planning.
  • Knowledge of Financial and Commercial dynamics.
  • Insights-led thinking with strong analytical skills.
  • Global mindset, and proven ability to effectively communicate and manage diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Fluent in English and Italian, with good written and verbal communication skills.
